The FC Bayern women’s football team has advanced in a thrilling Champions League quarter-final second leg against Manchester United. Thanks to a decisive late double strike in the final ten minutes, the Munich side secured a 2-1 (0-1) victory at the Allianz Arena. This win, combined with their 3-2 success in the first leg, secured FC Bayern’s third semi-final appearance in the competition’s history, following their runs in 2019 and 2021.
In the semi-finals, they are now poised to face the formidable top favorites FC Barcelona, against whom Bayern suffered a significant 1-7 defeat in the group stage. Barcelona holds a comfortable 6-2 lead going into their return leg against Real Madrid, making their progression highly probable. The semi-final matches are scheduled for April 25/26 and May 2/3.
In front of 25,000 spectators, Melvine Malard (11′) gave Manchester United an early lead. Bayern, who initially started passively and were missing several key players from their squad, significantly improved their performance after the half-time break. Captain Glodis Viggosdottir (81′) scored the highly deserved equalizer from a corner kick, before Linda Dallmann (84′) netted the winning goal shortly thereafter. Despite the late substitution of national player Lea Schüller for Manchester United, the English side could no longer avert the defeat.
