
European stock markets enjoyed a notably positive day, with Piazza Affari leading the rebound. The main Milanese index, FTSE MIB, saw a 2.88% increase, reaching 35,007 points in the first session of the week. This surge was boosted by the Trump administration`s decision to temporarily suspend tariffs on smartphones and certain computer categories.
The German market also performed strongly, with Frankfurt recording a 2.85% gain. Paris closed with a 2.37% increase, while Amsterdam and Madrid showed similarly encouraging results, with +2.41% and +2.64% respectively. London also joined the rally with a 2.14% appreciation.
There was a significant improvement in the spread between Italian and German ten-year government bonds. The spread closed at 116 basis points, a notable decrease from 119 at the opening and 124 at Friday`s close. This was aided by S&P`s upgrade of Italy`s credit rating. The yield on BTPs (Italian Treasury Bonds) saw a substantial decrease, settling at 3.67%.
In the currency market, the Euro/Dollar exchange rate remained largely stable with a minimal change of +0.16%. In contrast, Gold fell by 1.15%, dropping to $3,200 per ounce.
Regarding energy commodities, natural gas closed sharply higher on the Amsterdam market. The May-delivery methane futures contract recorded a final increase of 3.1%, reaching 34.5 euros per Megawatt hour. Crude oil (Light Sweet Crude Oil) experienced a slight decrease, closing with a 0.50% drop.
Among the top performers on Piazza Affari was Tim, which achieved a 5.46% increase. The financial sector showed strong performance overall, with Unipol up by 5.25%, Banco BPM by 5.19%, Monte dei Paschi di Siena by 4.81%, and Mediobanca by 4.75%. More moderate increases were seen in Pirelli (+1.35%), Enel (+1.23%), and Snam (+0.99%). Amplifon was in negative territory, declining by 1.57%.
In the FTSE MidCap segment, Newlat Food (+6.09%), TXT E-solutions (+5.07%), Banco di Desio e della Brianza (+4.86%), and OVS (+4.83%) stood out positively. Anima Holding was a negative highlight, closing the day with a 4.19% decrease.
Concerning football-related stocks, Juventus saw a slight decrease (-0.21%), while Lazio recorded a 0.75% drop.
