Trading on Piazza Affari concluded with a significant downturn, as the Ftse Mib index underperformed major European markets, dropping by 1.77% to 38,051 points. Market uncertainty, fueled by recently proposed tariffs from Donald Trump, negatively impacted indices.
Trump`s tariffs weighed heavily on European stock exchanges, with Milan being the worst performer at -1.77%.
Other key markets followed a similar downward trend: Paris decreased by 1.58%, Frankfurt fell by 1.33%, London declined by 0.88%, and Madrid recorded a 1.31% loss.
The spread between Italian and German government bonds showed little change, settling at 113 points, slightly above the previous session`s 112 points. The yield on the ten-year Italian bond slightly increased from 3.84% to 3.86%.
The Euro remained stable against the US Dollar, closing at 1.08, while gold saw a 1.06% increase. Notably, the price of oil (Light Sweet Crude Oil) increased significantly by 2.82%.
Regarding individual companies, several major Milan-listed firms experienced considerable losses. Buzzi suffered the largest decline at 5.47%, followed by Iveco down 4.86%, and Prysmian down 4.80%. Campari and Nexi also saw their stock prices decrease by 4.08% and 3.57% respectively. The banking sector was also affected, with Mps losing 4.57%, Bper 3.38%, Mediobanca 3.20%, Unicredit 3.14%, and Banco Bpm 2.54%. The automotive sector, particularly sensitive to tariff issues, saw Stellantis fall by 2.10% and Ferrari by 2.34%. Tim experienced a smaller decrease of 0.58% after Poste Italiane announced its acquisition of approximately 25% of its capital. Conversely, Terna, Snam, and Italgas showed slight gains.
Among smaller capitalization companies, Bialetti stood out with a 9.09% jump. Other gains were recorded by GVS at 4.85%, Fincantieri at 3.20%, RCS at 2.85%, and El.En at 2.63%.
On the negative side, Ariston Holding closed with a 4.99% loss, while Webuild and TXT E-solutions both recorded a 4.98% decrease. Football stocks also suffered, with Juventus and Lazio closing the day at -3.61% and -4.21% respectively.
