Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni is distancing herself from the FIGC commissioner appointment and Giovanni Malagò's selection as the head of the Italian Football Federation. Her office issued a statement flatly denying any involvement, emphasizing that her intervention would have led to a different result.

The Prime Minister's position was communicated exclusively to Michele Criscitiello, director of Sportitalia, following recent events in Italian football leadership and Criscitiello's prior commentary.

Meloni: "No Role in Malagò's Appointment"

The Prime Minister's stance was announced during the SportitaliaMercato broadcast via a statement from her press office.

"The Prime Minister categorically denies intervening regarding Giovanni Malagò's appointment as FIGC commissioner and having any role in the matter. The Premier specifies that if she had truly intervened, the outcome of the situation would certainly have been different from what occurred."

Clarification Following FIGC Commissioning

Meloni's statement follows the decision to place the Italian Football Federation under external administration, with Malagò, already the federation's president, appointed as commissioner.

Through the announcement shared by Sportitalia, Palazzo Chigi (the Prime Minister's office) aimed to exclude any participation by the premier in the decision-making process. Simultaneously, it underscored that, according to her press office, her involvement would have resulted in a different outcome.
