Cagliari's fast start to the season hasn't yet fully leveraged two of their recent transfer market acquisitions. Nzola and Kevin Carlos have faced challenging periods for different reasons, but the international break provides an opportunity for both to catch up.

Cagliari's Attack: A Break for Pisacane's Options

The focus is particularly on the October 11th clash against Juventus, an occasion where Pisacane might finally have two alternatives closer to peak condition.

Nzola's Mini-Pre-Season Restart

Nzola's path has been longer; he hasn't yet made a matchday squad since arriving in Sardinia. The Rossoblù staff used the break for a personalized training program, continuing even during the team's rest days after the Udine victory.

This has been a necessary period to compensate for lost ground from earlier months. Having completed his individual work, the Angolan striker has now rejoined his teammates.

His prior season saw a lack of consistency. At Pisa, he appeared 16 times and scored three goals before returning to Fiorentina in January and then moving on loan to Sassuolo. His time with the Neroverdi yielded another 14 appearances, but only 466 minutes on the pitch and one goal.

This summer, back at Fiorentina, Nzola had to wait until the transfer window's closing stages to learn his destination. Cagliari decided to bring in the 30-year-old to add physical presence and Serie A experience to their attack.

First Call-Up in Sight Against Juventus

Months without regular activity, however, have essentially required Nzola to restart his preparation. The recent weeks of training are aimed at closing this gap.

The first target could be the Cagliari-Juventus game: according to Corriere dello Sport, the aim is to be included in the squad for the October 11th fixture, marking his first call-up of the season.

This doesn't necessarily mean an immediate starting role, but rather a first step towards becoming a regular part of Pisacane's rotation.

Kevin Carlos Seeks to Find Himself Again

Kevin Carlos's situation differs. The Spaniard has already seen some game time with his new club, totaling 75 minutes against Inter, Atalanta, and Udine.

His integration was inevitably impacted by a significant family bereavement that kept him away for an extended period. Because of this, Pisacane did not expect him to perform at his best immediately.

The break is allowing him to work not only on his physical condition but also on his mental recovery.

From Basel Goals to Nice Struggles

Cagliari particularly hopes to see the player who impressed in Switzerland return. With Basel, Kevin Carlos scored 12 goals in the 2024-25 league season, adding two in the domestic cup. The following season began with another goal in his first four games before his transfer to Nice.

His French experience did not yield the same results. Kevin Carlos netted two Europa League goals but failed to score in the league.

Now, the 25-year-old from Ceuta is trying to rebuild his condition and confidence in Sardinia. For Pisacane, the break can thus act as a small supplementary transfer window: Nzola is finally aiming for a debut among the called-up players, while Kevin Carlos is focused on rediscovering the version of himself that made a difference at Basel.
