Milan`s stock exchange, Piazza Affari, distinguished itself as the top-performing market in Europe, with the FTSE MIB index concluding trading up 1.02% at 39,369 points.
The prospect of a potential trade agreement with the United States on tariff issues contributed to the positive close across major European indices. Markets on the continent ended the session with gains: Frankfurt advanced 0.63%, followed by Paris with an increase of 0.64%. Madrid saw a more modest rise of 0.48%, and London was up 0.27%.
The spread between Italian and German government bonds narrowed to 104.8 basis points from the previous close of 105, reaching its lowest levels since February 2022, following a week of attempts at trade de-escalation. The yield on the Italian ten-year bond remained largely stable at 3.6%, showing a slight variation from the previous 3.58%.
In currency markets, the Euro/USD exchange rate maintained the previous day`s value at 1.123. Gold continued its slight increase, reaching $3,314.9 per ounce. Crude Oil (Light Sweet) also extended its positive trend, rising to $60.67 per barrel.
Among individual stocks on Piazza Affari, Mediobanca was a clear standout, surging 5.40% after releasing its results for the first nine months. In a period marked by numerous quarterly reports, other positive performers included Saipem (+3.81%), St (+3.34%), Bper (+3.24%), and Tim (+2.48%). Mps also saw a positive performance (+1.50%).
On the negative side, declines were recorded for Leonardo (-3.31%), Campari (-2.71%), Amplifon (-2.27%), and Diasorin (-1.47%).
In the FTSE MidCap index, top performers included BFF Bank (+7.54%), Lottomatica (+7.00%), Ascopiave (+3.90%), and Moltiply Group (+2.93%). Conversely, the most significant drops in this index affected Piaggio, which finished the day down -7.10%, Cementir (-6.02%), D`Amico (-3.21%), and Banco di Desio e della Brianza (-3.12%).
Turning to the football sector, both Juventus and Lazio saw their share prices decline. Juventus closed the session down 1.99%, while Lazio dropped 0.72%. This comes ahead of their critical match tomorrow at the Stadio Olimpico, a game that is decisive for qualification to the next Champions League.
