Julian Alvarez Wants to Leave Atletico Madrid for His Dreams

For months, there have been transfer rumors surrounding the Argentinian player. His club, Atleti, has consistently rejected offers from competitors. However, the sought-after striker has now spoken out himself.

Alvarez’s words after Argentina’s 2-0 victory against Austria in their second World Cup group match on Monday evening left no room for speculation. «The best thing for everyone is a transfer,» the 26-year-old told ESPN. «I want to fulfill my dreams.»

The absolute European elite are reportedly after Alvarez: Champions League winners PSG, England’s champions Arsenal, and of course, Atleti’s Spanish rivals FC Barcelona and Real Madrid.

For instance, Real Madrid reportedly offered €150 million for the 2022 World Cup winner, which the Rojiblancos outright rejected.

Atletico mocked Barcelona on social media, accusing the Spanish champions of spreading false information and deliberate leaks.

Alvarez Informs Atleti Officials of His Desire to Move

«I know this isn’t the right moment to talk,» Alvarez said after the game in Dallas, «but I don’t want to hide anymore. I want to be an honest person, and I’ve spoken with the people at Atletico whom I needed to speak with.» He has informed them of his desire to transfer.

Alvarez did not reveal where he wishes to go, but according to ESPN, he is leaning towards Barcelona, which is seeking a successor for the departing Robert Lewandowski.

Julian Alvarez Has Been a Substitute So Far at the World Cup

Alvarez’s star rose at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, where the then 22-year-old played a significant role alongside Lionel Messi in Argentina’s title victory. After playing for River Plate and Manchester City, he joined Atletico for €75 million in the summer of 2024, signing a contract until 2030.

In 106 games under his compatriot Diego Simeone, Alvarez has scored 49 goals and provided 17 assists, but has not won any titles. Last season.

In the current World Cup in the USA, Canada, and Mexico, Alvarez has not yet been a significant factor. While Messi has scored all five goals in the two victories so far for the defending champions, Alvarez has had to settle for the role of a substitute.
