Attacking midfielder Jonas Hofmann will depart from Bayer Leverkusen after the 2026/2027 season, as his contract will not be extended beyond 2027.
Hofmann himself confirmed that the club informed him his current contract, which runs until 2027, would not be prolonged. This means the upcoming season will be his last in the Werkself jersey.
The 33-year-old attacker currently has no concrete plans for his future after Leverkusen. Although he will turn 35 next year, Hofmann feels «top fit» and is not considering retirement. The former international (23 caps) stated that he is «full of energy» and therefore does not wish to end his career yet, though further developments remain uncertain.
Hofmann joined the Rhineland club in summer 2023 for approximately 13 million euros from Borussia Mönchengladbach and was a key component of the historic championship-winning team under coach Xabi Alonso. In the current season, the 33-year-old has made 26 competitive appearances across all competitions (three goals, three assists), having initially not been registered for the Champions League group stage.
Hofmann Prepares for 2027 Departure
Hofmann assesses his sporting role as stable. He emphasized that he receives «very good feedback» from coach Xabi Alonso regarding his training performance and always gives «full throttle.» He accepts that fluctuating playing time is part of the football business, as «almost every footballer experiences this in their career.»
