Joan Laporta Reveals: Why Hansi Flick Won’t Extend Beyond 2028 at FC Barcelona

Discussions regarding Hansi Flick’s contract extension with FC Barcelona are slated to occur only after the current season concludes. Club President Joan Laporta stated that the former German national team coach prefers to discuss a new deal «at peace,» seeing no urgency to do so sooner.

Flick’s current contract extends until summer 2027, with plans for a one-year extension. Laporta praised Flick, describing him as «a very honest and professional individual.» He added, «I believe he deserves the contract extension, but he prefers to analyze the situation at the end of the season before deciding on the next steps. If we get another year, the extension is already secured.»

Flick Rejects Extension Beyond 2028

According to Laporta, Flick is hesitant to extend his contract beyond 2028. This reluctance stems from a concern that «someone might think he is relying on his long-term contract» and, consequently, accuse him of complacency. «He wants to avoid that at all costs,» Laporta emphasized.
