Former Juventus defender Mark Iuliano spoke to Sportmediaset about the latest news regarding Juventus. The club is expected to announce the dismissal of Thiago Motta and the appointment of Igor Tudor as his replacement. Here are his comments, reported by TMW:
`Is it right to dismiss Thiago Motta?`
“Speaking as a fan, I was born a Juventus supporter and always will be, and I also played for them. It`s always painful to see the team struggling, but at some point, decisions need to be made. I don`t know if dismissing Thiago Motta is right, he is certainly a great professional who tried his best. However, the performances were not always convincing. Juventus comes before coaches and players. Since you can`t just get rid of all the players, you need to decide what to do and do it quickly. Juve needs to be in the Champions League, and if a change is necessary, strong decisions are justified.”
Tudor seems to be the frontrunner.
“I know Giuntoli very well. Despite the criticism he has faced, I know what kind of director he is. He is a great football expert, I think one of the best in his role. Igor is a great coach, and I think he can do very well. He knows the environment, the club, and what it means to be at Juve.”
Del Piero was very critical after the defeats against Atalanta and Fiorentina. Would there have been a reaction in your Juventus team?
“In my Juventus, that would never have happened. Everyone was exceptional. But it`s not right to talk about the past because every era is different. However, anyone who came to Juve knew what they would find and what they had to do. That`s what has been lost in recent years; players have become more important than the badge they wear on their chest.”
