Following Italy`s victory against Belgium in their opening match of the Women`s European Championship, coach Andrea Soncin expressed satisfaction.
He stated: “This is what we wanted. The first match is always tricky. We weren`t perfect in the first 20 minutes, but that was somewhat expected. The girls were commendable, every single one, including those cheering from the stands. We know we can improve and grow, but I`m very pleased with the attitude shown. Let`s keep this momentum. We hope this is just the start of a long run of matches. We need to stay grounded and focus on our strengths.”
Italy`s captain, Cristiana Girelli, added: “We`re bringing home these three golden points; starting with a win was crucial. From tomorrow, we`ll already be focused on Portugal. We are a rapidly improving team that intends to make an impact in this tournament.”
