Stankovic Deserves Time and Trust Despite Mistakes

In Inter's 2-1 victory against Juventus in their final summer friendly in Perth, before returning to Italy, the performances of Leonardo Bovio, Federico Dimarco, and Andy Diouf made headlines. Dimarco's continued strong play is not surprising, given his MVP award in Serie A last season. Andy Diouf's consistently excellent pre-season performances are also becoming less unexpected. Meanwhile, 2008-born Leonardo Bovio's mature display against Juventus suggests potential for future prominence.

Aleksandar Stankovic's performance against Luciano Spalletti's team was less stellar. This was primarily due to his inability to keep pace with Francisco Conceicao, who contributed to the decisive 1-2 goal in the final minutes. Should this single incident lead to a decrease in the trust Inter and its fans place in the Serbian player? The answer is a resounding no. It would be nonsensical to begin doubting the qualities of the 2005-born player over one missed defensive play. Yet, some have already started questioning one of the potential cornerstones of the Milanese squad due to an oversight that can happen to anyone, even the most experienced players.

The Imperative

Not only should Stankovic be supported with even greater conviction after the Juventus match in view of the upcoming season, but the level of trust and reliance on the former Inter youth player must remain unchanged, even in the event of (potential) initial difficulties in fully integrating into the team's mechanisms. This would be entirely understandable, considering the need to gradually adapt to the dynamics of a top club structured in such an intricate and codified manner as Inter. To claim ignorance of this situation would be to treat a scenario that requires attention, trust, and full legitimacy in an inappropriate and ungenerous way.
