Norwegian FA to Demand Infantino's Resignation

August 8, 2026Pablo Navarro1 мин

The Norwegian Football Federation (NFF) intends to request that FIFA President Gianni Infantino step down with immediate effect. This decision comes in response to alleged attempts to sell stakes in the World Cup to private investors, according to reports from The Guardian. The NFF is the first national football association to directly call for the resignation of the FIFA chief.

Furthermore, Norway will formally submit new complaints to the ethics committee concerning several scandals, including the awarding of the FIFA 'peace prize' to then-US President Donald Trump and the Balogun case. Lise Klaveness, the President of the NFF, stated, "We have decided that we no longer trust Infantino. Trust has been lost, and there is no turning back. We are in a moment of strong polarization and global chaos. For this reason, we will ask him to resign immediately, so that the global football community can look forward."

Klaveness added, "We did not vote for him in 2023, but we had hoped to support him. He was elected to implement the reforms he had promoted. But he has not done so, and now we will ask him to resign."
