Joaquín Correa Returns to Estudiantes After 12 Years, Former Inter Legend Crucial

Joaquín Correa has officially joined Estudiantes. The Argentine, who previously played for Inter Milan in Serie A, is returning to his boyhood club twelve years after his initial departure. A pivotal figure in this reunion was Inter Milan legend Juan Sebastián Verón, who is now the President of Estudiantes.

Estudiantes officially confirmed Correa's signing on their website, stating: "Club Estudiantes de La Plata announces that Joaquín Correa has officially become the first reinforcement for Alexander Medina's squad for this second half of the season. He completed his medical examination this morning and has signed a contract for the next two seasons."

The player, known as 'Tucu', arrives on a free transfer and will once again wear the Albirroja jersey nearly twelve years after his last appearance. He will also be eligible to play in the CONMEBOL Copa Libertadores.

Correa, who rose through the youth ranks at Estudiantes, made his professional debut in the First Division on May 19, 2012, against Banfield at the age of 17. He stayed with Estudiantes until December 2014, having played 64 matches and scored 5 goals before transferring to Sampdoria in Italy.

From there, he embarked on an extensive international career, notably playing for Sevilla in Spain (2016-2018), Lazio (2018-2021), Inter Milan (2021-2025), Olympique de Marseille (2023/24), and Botafogo (2025/26). During his time in Italian football, he secured six trophies, four with Inter and two with Lazio.

His international career includes 19 appearances and 4 goals for the Argentine national team, with whom he won the Copa América in 2021 and the Finalissima in 2022.

After almost twelve years, the young player who began his journey in the First Division with Estudiantes is returning to the place where his story first began.
