Inter coach Simone Inzaghi spoke about the significant defeat his team suffered in the Champions League final against Paris Saint-Germain. Speaking to Sky Sport, he commented: “Honestly, it didn`t resemble my Inter at all. The players are acutely aware of this, but I remain incredibly proud of the path we have travelled. Tonight, we encountered a superior side that genuinely earned the Champions League victory. We approached the match poorly and subsequently became too spread out, which simplified things for PSG. It`s a difficult defeat, a bad one, but it absolutely does not erase everything we`ve accomplished. I, personally, needed to perform better, but we absolutely must not overlook what has been achieved. Zero titles this season, but still very commendable efforts from the team.”
Asked about his future at the club:
On whether this was his final match in charge of Inter: “We will review this in the coming days with the club management. Following a second final loss in three years, the sense of disappointment is substantial. There will be ample time for calm conversations with the club; they share the frustration but have consistently been supportive of us.”
On the team`s frequent passing back to goalkeeper Sommer: “In the first half, we did not execute technically as effectively as we are capable. When we played the ball back to Sommer, they [PSG] were always quick to press us immediately. After conceding the first goal, the distances between our players increased, contributing to this wide scoreline. We needed to perform better.”
On why Davide Frattesi was not substituted into the match: “Davide absolutely deserved to participate in a portion of the final. However, I decided to introduce Zalewski playing alongside Lautaro behind Thuram. Following that, Calhanoglu and Bisseck were two substitutions necessitated by circumstances. As we were three goals down, I opted against bringing him onto the field at that point.”
