Inter’s €100M+ Overhaul: Marotta Targets Koné, Goalkeeper Replacements, Bastoni on Barcelona’s Radar

Major changes are on the horizon for Inter Milan. Following their Champions League disappointment, the immediate priority for the club is the Scudetto. After this, Giuseppe Marotta is set to initiate a squad revolution. While coach Chivu focuses on fending off AC Milan’s challenge and securing the league title, the club is already laying the groundwork for a transfer market that will significantly reshape the Nerazzurri roster. A spending spree exceeding €100 million is expected. With a move for Nico Paz unlikely, Manu Koné is now identified as a primary target, a player Chivu reportedly desired last summer. However, the club must also monitor potential outgoings, as Inter’s key players are highly sought after.

Inter’s Restyling: Over €100 Million for Transfers

There’s no escaping the fact that Champions League earnings would have significantly boosted Inter’s transfer budget. However, their premature exit from the playoffs clearly signals the need for substantial squad changes. A comprehensive refoundation can no longer be postponed. This means a complete overhaul affecting every area of the pitch. From the goalkeeping position, where a successor to Yann Sommer must be found, to the attack, should the club decide to sell Marcus Thuram, who is seen as a major candidate for departure. Yet, the midfield is where at least two significant new additions are planned. If all the names on Marotta and Ausilio’s wishlist are acquired, Inter would spend over €100 million to provide Chivu with a completely refreshed squad.

Koné: A Key Target for Chivu

Manu Koné is identified as a potential major investment for Inter’s summer transfer window. The club reportedly attempted to sign him last August after their pursuit of Lookman faltered. Koné, 24, is valued for his blend of quality and physicality, which is seen as precisely what the Nerazzurri midfield requires in terms of dynamism and tactical ideas. A move for him is highly anticipated, with an estimated asking price of at least €40-45 million.

Marotta’s Goalkeeper Search: Two Names for Sommer’s Successor

Acquiring a new goalkeeper is among Inter’s top priorities. Yann Sommer is expected to leave as his contract expires in June, along with veteran defenders Acerbi, De Vrij, and Darmian. Discussions are also underway regarding Henrikh Mkhitaryan’s future, with retirement not entirely off the table. It is widely anticipated that Inter’s next starting goalkeeper will be sought from the Premier League. Guglielmo Vicario (29, Tottenham) and Alisson Becker (34, Liverpool) are reportedly the names that intrigue Marotta. Vicario is valued at around €30 million, while Alisson, due to his age, might command a lower transfer fee, but his current net salary of €5 million at Anfield presents a significant financial consideration.

Other Transfer Ideas, Department by Department

The defensive line is slated for rejuvenation. Bosnian defender Muharemovic, 23, currently with Juventus Next Gen, is reportedly a candidate, with an estimated price tag of at least €30 million. Interestingly, Juventus stands to benefit from his potential future sale, holding a 50% sell-on clause from his previous transfer. The future of Aleksandar Stankovic Jr. (20), son of Dejan, appears to be returning to Inter; the midfielder is currently impressing on loan at Sampdoria. Inter is reportedly prepared to activate their €25 million buy-back option, potentially viewing him as a key young talent for the future. As for the attack, recruitment will largely hinge on potential departures. While there is an intention to foster the growth of young talents (like the «golden boy of Castellammare di Stabia,» likely a promising youth player), if Marcus Thuram were to leave, another significant attacking reinforcement would be necessary.

Bastoni Alarm: Barcelona’s Interest Looms

In Spain, there are strong reports, specifically from Sport, that Barcelona’s sporting director Deco recently met with Alessandro Bastoni’s agent. The purpose was to explore the possibility of transferring the Italian international defender to Camp Nou. It’s speculated that recent controversies following the Derby d’Italia and continuous whistles Bastoni (born in 1999) has faced in stadiums across Italy might prompt him to consider leaving. Regardless, Inter is reportedly demanding no less than €70 million for his services.
