Historic Milestone Since Kobe Bryant: Luka Doncic’s Latest Gala Performance Puts Him on the Path of Lakers Legends

Luka Doncic delivered another stellar performance against the Houston Rockets, continuing his historic run and etching his name in the record books.

Thanks to a dominant crunch-time display and a disastrous final quarter from the Rockets, led by Kevin Durant, the Los Angeles Lakers secured their sixth consecutive victory on Tuesday night. Luka Doncic has been an instrumental force during Coach JJ Redick’s team’s current streak, consistently scoring at least 30 points in every single game.

The dynamic point guard has averaged an impressive 37.8 points per game during this stretch, marking the best scoring output by a Lakers player over such a sustained period since Kobe Bryant’s 39.5 PPG run in the 2011-2012 season.

During his remarkable streak, Doncic not only surpassed the 50-point mark for the first time as a Laker but also recorded his 52nd 30-point game in ‘Purple and Gold’ during the road victory against Houston. This latest stellar performance allowed him to tie Lakers legend James Worthy on the franchise’s all-time list for 30-point games.

Lakers icon James Worthy, who now shares the eleventh spot with ‘Luka Magic,’ chuckled when confronted with the statistic, exclaiming, «It took me 14 years!» In stark contrast, Doncic reached 52 such performances in a mere 84 regular season games. The 27-year-old sensation was acquired by Los Angeles from the Dallas Mavericks in a blockbuster trade involving Anthony Davis in early February 2025.

Anthony Davis, who was part of the trade package, currently sits in ninth place with 96 30-point games. Doncic’s next milestone will be to surpass Magic Johnson, who is in tenth place with 93 such games. LeBron James, Luka’s current Lakers teammate, ranks sixth with 145 games, while Kobe Bryant, with an astounding 431, unsurprisingly leads the all-time list by a significant margin.

«Clearly the MVP»: High Praise for Record-Setting Doncic

Doncic’s incredible scoring spree has also placed him among an elite group of Lakers legends in another significant statistic. His 36 points against Houston marked his 25th game this season with at least 35 points. This rare feat was previously achieved only by Jerry West, Elgin Baylor, and Kobe Bryant.

Elgin Baylor accomplished this milestone in three separate seasons, while both Baylor and Bryant reached it in two seasons each. Kobe Bryant still holds the all-time record with 46 such games in a single season (2005-2006).

Doncic currently leads the entire NBA in scoring, averaging 32.9 points per game. James Worthy, a three-time NBA champion, concluded his praise by stating, «He is clearly the MVP.» Worthy had previously remarked days earlier, «I’ve witnessed many great players, but he is undoubtedly one of the best.»
