FIGC President Gabriele Gravina underscored the continuous evolution and increasing importance of women`s football, describing it as vital for the entire Italian football system. Speaking at the `Frecciarossa Game On – Women in Sport 2025` event, he highlighted the sport`s significant growth, noting a threefold increase in registered players over the past seven years. Gravina also celebrated the historic achievement of all three women`s national teams qualifying for the European Championship finals for the first time. He emphasized that the advancement of women`s football benefits the entire sport in Italy, commending coach Soncin`s work and stressing the need for ongoing support for this developing sector.
Discussing the movement`s progress, Gravina pointed out a broader societal shift: “This game no longer just sees girls running after a ball; it represents society itself moving forward.” He connected this progress to the crucial decision to recognize women`s football as professional, a step he called a “measure of great civilization” that granted equal dignity to the players through considerable dedication. Gravina called for unified efforts to work towards a more just and inclusive society through sport. CONI President Giovanni Malagò also sent a video message congratulating women`s football, echoing the sentiment that the entire movement is growing and emphasizing the critical need for future planning in women`s football and sport generally.
