France’s Heavily Rotated Squad Secures 3-1 Win Over Colombia, PSG Youngster Desire Doue Scores First International Goals

The French national team concluded their successful US tour with a second consecutive victory, defeating Colombia 3-1 (2-0) in Landover, Maryland. This win follows their 2-1 triumph against Brazil, demonstrating the depth of the squad even without key stars like Kylian Mbappe and Michael Olise in the starting lineup.

Twenty-year-old Desire Doue from Paris Saint-Germain was the standout performer, netting his first two international goals in the 29th and 56th minutes. Former Borussia Mönchengladbach striker Marcus Thuram also contributed to France’s tally, scoring in the 41st minute.

Colombia managed to pull one back through Jaminton Campaz in the 77th minute, who had been substituted on for Luis Díaz in the 63rd minute, setting the final score at 3-1 at the Washington Commanders’ football stadium.

Deschamps Rotates Squad, Stars See Limited Action

Coach Didier Deschamps made a complete rotation of his starting eleven compared to the previous match against Brazil. Superstars Michael Olise and Kylian Mbappe were introduced only in the closing stages, while Ballon d’Or winner Ousmane Dembele remained an unused substitute throughout the game, underscoring Deschamps’ strategy to test various players.

Initially, France faced challenges against Colombia’s bold approach, led by Luis Díaz and former Bayern Munich player James Rodriguez. However, the Equipe Tricolore steadily improved as the game progressed, with Doue and Thuram securing a well-deserved 2-0 lead. Doue further extended the advantage after the break. Following this, the French eased off, allowing Colombia to grab a consolation goal.

Upcoming World Cup Challenges

Coach Deschamps is set to announce his final squad for the upcoming World Cup in the USA, Mexico, and Canada on May 13. France will compete in a group alongside Norway, Senegal, and the playoff winner between Iraq and Bolivia.

Meanwhile, Colombia’s path will see them face Portugal, debutants Uzbekistan, and either DR Congo or Jamaica in their respective group stage matches.
