Former Chelsea Star Slams Enzo Fernandez, Demands Exit Amidst Madrid Comments

A clear commitment to his club? Not from Chelsea captain Enzo Fernandez. Instead, his recent remarks hinting at a potential departure and expressing a fondness for Madrid have drawn sharp criticism. Former Blues player Mikel John Obi has now called for Fernandez to leave Stamford Bridge.

Fernandez, who is under contract with Chelsea until 2032, recently failed to offer a definitive statement about his future after the team’s Champions League exit. When asked by ESPN Argentina if he would still be playing for the Blues next season, he replied: «I don’t know. My focus is here for now. We still have Premier League games and the FA Cup. After that comes the World Cup – and then we’ll have to see.» Just a few days later, in a video, he revealed: «I always tell my wife that if I had to choose a city in Europe where I’d like to live, I really like Madrid.»

Mikel John Obi: ‘If you’ve had enough, give up and get out’

These comments incensed Mikel John Obi, who unleashed his frustration on his «Obi One» podcast. «He’s no leader,» fumed the Nigerian. «If he were a leader whom players respect and look up to, he wouldn’t make such statements. You don’t make comments like that, especially as captain, when you’ve just been embarrassingly knocked out of the Champions League. No player is bigger than the club. If you’ve had enough, give up and get out. Then we’ll move on.»

Enzo Fernandez joined Chelsea from Benfica in January 2023 for a transfer fee of 121 million Euros.
