Rosario Fiorello`s popular show, `Radio2 Radio Show – La Pennicanza`, co-hosted with Fabrizio Biggio on Rai Radio2, is entering its final week and is scheduled to conclude this Friday, June 6th. Fiorello himself announced the upcoming finale with his usual dose of irony: “This is the last week. Rai management says we`re too strong, making the rest of the radio look bad, so we have to stop.” However, the showman also presented an interesting possibility: “This might just have been a preview. It`s possible the show could return in October for a longer, stable run. We`ll see!”
Following the show`s announcement, the broadcast was filled with surreal gags and satire. The segment began with the inevitable joke about the city of Rome: “This morning it was deserted, only the Pope was around! He went to a friend`s birthday with a bottle… and today he`s going to the June 2nd Pa-parade. First the infantry pass, then the motorbikes, the tracked vehicles… and finally him, in the Pope-mobile!”
As a passionate Inter fan, Fiorello couldn`t resist commenting on his team`s participation in the Champions League final with a humorous bit: “Don`t tell me anything, I recorded it! On Saturday I watched `La gemma della nostra vita` on Rai1, on Sunday I had a confirmation, then I barricaded myself at home and didn`t talk to anyone.” But a surprising moment occurred during the game `Mi fido del pacco`: a contestant inadvertently revealed, “It`s been a tough time… and then Inter lost the final 5-0…” Fiorello`s reaction was one of utter shock: “What?! Five-zero?! But I recorded it! Five goals one after another? I feel sick…”
The showman then requested to end the connection, accompanied by sad background music. Subsequently, a `fake` phone call to the Nerazzurri coach, Simone Inzaghi, took place. The entire gag played on absurdity: “I`m self-flagellating on the hermitage of Monte Giove,” revealed the (fake) Mister Inzaghi. “When the referee booked me near the end of the match, I just yelled at him: `I don`t want extra time… otherwise they`ll score three more!`”
Finally, an award was announced: “I received the TV Talk award for best absentee on TV,” Fiorello stated. Simona Sala, director of Rai Radio2, presented the award with an accompanying message from Angelo Mellone: “Dear Fiorello, I`m absolutely delighted to give you this award for your very noisy absence. But being present at the awards ceremony would have been contradictory… PS: the next time you say you want to host `Domenica In`, at least give me a call!”
`La Pennicanza` continues to be one of radio`s most unpredictable and talked-about programs, characterized by pop satire, unrestrained comedy, and that uniquely Fiorello blend of “thinking lightness”. Adding to the format`s success, the showman, joined by Biggio, also hosts an informal live show on Instagram each evening, serving as a true extension of the radio program.
