FERGUSON in sala stampa: “Dato tutto per vincere, ma non è bastato. Rigore? Convinto che ci fosse”

Bologna midfielder Lewis Ferguson spoke to the press following the team`s 1-1 draw against Juventus.

Reflecting on the performance, Ferguson stated that the team “gave everything to win, but it wasn`t enough.” He added that despite the result, they will head to Milan “with heads held high” aiming for a victory.

Discussing playing in a slightly deeper role this season, he said, “I like this position; I played there for many years before arriving in Bologna.” He takes responsibility for ball recovery in this role and highlighted Bologna`s dominance in possession during the match. He admitted the team feels “a bit frustrated” by not securing the win.

On the controversial incident involving a penalty not given, Ferguson was convinced there should have been a spot-kick. “I saw the action from behind,” he explained, “I immediately thought it was a penalty, and Remo [Freuler] told me the same.” He reiterated, “After reviewing the images, I am still convinced there was one.”

When asked about Juventus, Roma, and Lazio as rivals, Ferguson acknowledged that all three teams are currently winning, which is “normal.” He stressed that for Bologna to “fight for fourth place, we also have to win everything.” He described the current period as “a beautiful moment for us and for the fans” and emphasized the need to “be careful and recover as best as possible for the match against Milan.”

Ferguson also addressed his role as a leader within the squad. He feels this responsibility, particularly enjoying having the captain`s responsibility on the field when Lorenzo De Silvestri is not playing, while recognizing De Silvestri as the “true captain.” He finds it “a pleasure every time I step onto the field with the armband.”

Finally, he spoke about his return from injury, describing the past year as “difficult.” He faced significant challenges recovering from an initial injury, taking two and a half months to feel close to 100%, only to then suffer further setbacks with a flexor injury and later a thigh issue. Despite feeling “a bit frustrated” by the injuries, he understands it`s “all normal.” He confirmed he is “feeling well now,” having “worked at maximum intensity in training this week” and playing the full 90 minutes against Juventus.
