FC Bayern News and Rumors: Raphael Guerreiro Becomes a Super Bargain for Three Clubs

Several clubs are reportedly showing interest in Raphael Guerreiro. Here’s the latest news and rumors surrounding the German record champions.

FC Bayern News: Raphael Guerreiro Highly Sought After Following FCB Departure

Raphael Guerreiro is set to leave FC Bayern as a free agent this summer. The German record champions announced earlier this week that the Portuguese player’s contract would not be extended.

«It wasn’t easy because he’s a great guy, he’s played many good games, and he’s very versatile – a major strength of his,» said sporting director Christoph Freund at the press conference before Friday’s away game in Freiburg. «We’ve always said that when we make a decision, we tell the players, which is why we’ve announced it now. We have our ideas for how the squad will look in the summer, but there’s still some time until then.»

Reportedly, Bayern considered Guerreiro’s salary simply too high for his increasingly diminished role under coach Vincent Kompany to justify extending their collaboration. Guerreiro is said to earn six million euros annually at the record champions.

However, given that the 32-year-old will now be available for free, several clubs are reportedly eager to snap him up, having expressed interest in the versatile Portuguese player. Primarily, these include Juventus Turin and Benfica Lisbon. According to Turkish daily Hurriyet, Besiktas Istanbul has also now listed Guerreiro as a «super bargain» and intends to intensify their efforts soon.

A move to his Portuguese homeland in Lisbon would hold a special romantic appeal for Guerreiro. Despite having 65 international caps for the Seleção, he has never played club football in Portugal.

Guerreiro was born, raised, and developed in France. In 2016, he moved from FC Lorient to BVB (Borussia Dortmund), where he arguably experienced the most individually successful period of his career, being converted into a playmaking left-back under Thomas Tuchel. It was also Tuchel who ultimately brought Guerreiro to Munich. There, he now ranks clearly behind Alphonso Davies, Josip Stanisic, and Hiroki Ito in the left-back pecking order.

FC Bayern News: 100-Goal Mark Reached and a Special Comeback

100 goals after 28 games – an unprecedented achievement! It’s now a foregone conclusion that Bayern will at least match their own Bundesliga record of 101 goals from the 1971/72 season in their upcoming away game against FC St. Pauli next week. Lennart Karl scored the 100th goal, crowning Bayern’s fantastic comeback in Freiburg.

According to data experts from Opta, FCB became only the third team in Bundesliga history to turn a two-goal deficit after the 80th minute into a victory.

«Yes, it’s a truly incredible feeling for me. Scoring in the last minute is something very special,» Karl told Sky. «I actually had it in my mind the whole time to take off my shirt, and then it somehow really happened. Luckily, my right foot worked out in that play, the ball was in, and it was just an indescribable feeling.»

FC Bayern News: Champions League Qualification Secured

FC Bayern is one of only three teams in Europe to have already secured their Champions League participation. Congratulations! Thanks to their 3-2 victory in Freiburg and TSG Hoffenheim’s simultaneous loss against FSV Mainz, the Munich side’s lead over fifth place is now 23 points – a lead they can no longer squander.

Before Bayern, FC Barcelona had already achieved this feat. And on Saturday, PSV Eindhoven joined them. The Dutch club sealed their spot with a wild 4-3 win against FC Utrecht, a match where they, like Bayern, also came back from a 0-2 deficit.
