Although the Bundesliga title race is concluded, FC Bayern München could further embellish their dominant season with additional records.
In their Bundesliga match against Mainz 05 on Saturday (3:30 PM), the newly crowned champions have the chance to make more entries in the history books.
With 49 goals scored away from home so far, the Munich side has already matched their own Bundesliga record from the 2021/22 season. If they don’t find the net against Mainz, they will have another opportunity in their away game against relegation-threatened VfL Wolfsburg on May 9th (6:30 PM).
Just two matchdays ago, the German record champions set a new Bundesliga scoring record. They currently boast an incredible 109 goals, surpassing even their Champions League semi-final opponent PSG (108 goals in the 2017/18 season). The record of 128 goals, set by Aston Villa nearly 100 years ago in the 1930/31 season (though with 42 games played then), is also within reach if Bayern continues to achieve convincing victories.
If Bayern falls behind in two of their remaining four matches and still emerges victorious, another record could fall. They achieved this feat for the seventh time this season in their recent match against VfB Stuttgart. Bayer Leverkusen, in the 1999/00 season, managed eight such comebacks, despite also being behind at times.
FC Bayern Could Be Playing the Best Bundesliga Season of All Time
But that’s not all. Should Bayern score their 14th goal from a corner in the closing stages of the season, they would match Gladbach’s record from the 2023/24 season. Under coach Vincent Kompany, the team has proven to be exceptionally dangerous from set pieces this campaign. This is largely attributed to set-piece coach Aaron Danks, who will be filling in for the Belgian manager, suspended for the Champions League semi-final first leg against PSG.
Furthermore, the best season performance in history is within reach. If they secure four more wins, they would reach 91 points, mirroring their 2012/13 season under Jupp Heynckes. However, their goal difference of +80 would still be surpassed. Currently, Kompany’s squad has scored 80 more goals than they have conceded.
In addition to the away games in Mainz and Wolfsburg, they will also face Heidenheim and Köln at home.
