FC Basel is actively pursuing Yann Sommer. David Degen, the Swiss club’s sporting director, has sent a clear message to the Inter Milan goalkeeper, openly stating his strong interest in the player.
During an appearance on the club’s official podcast, Degen didn’t shy away from revealing his top choice: «My preferred candidate plays approximately 300-350 kilometers away as the crow flies. I hope he calls me soon. He knows he can call me, he’s aware of it; he needs to send me a signal. Whether it will actually happen, I don’t know, nor do I know if he wants to, I’m unaware of his plans.»
These remarks underscore that Sommer is the primary target for Basel’s goalkeeping position, although not their sole option: «I value him immensely as a person and as a player. He would help us significantly with what we have planned. This doesn’t mean that Jonas Omlin isn’t also an excellent candidate. But if Yann and Jonas are both available, we will focus as much as possible on Yann.»
Degen concluded by referencing their shared past on the field, which strengthens the connection between them: «I played with him. Let’s be surprised by what the future holds. I myself am happy to be surprised.»
