FC Barcelona Reportedly Initiates Talks to Sign Top Defender Alessandro Bastoni

The central defender has emerged as the prime target for the Catalan club, who are actively seeking to bolster their defensive line.

FC Barcelona is reportedly in advanced discussions regarding the acquisition of Alessandro Bastoni from Inter Milan. Sources indicate that the 26-year-old is considered the top priority to strengthen Barca’s defense, despite the potential for a substantial transfer fee that could challenge Hansi Flick’s squad budget.

Bastoni is under contract with Inter until 2028, meaning the Nerazzurri are not obligated to sell their defender. Consequently, the transfer fee for Bastoni is expected to be significant, with figures reportedly ranging between 50 and 90 million Euros.

Bastoni’s representatives have initiated discussions with Barcelona, covering initial terms such as salary and contract length. The Catalan giants have clearly expressed their strong interest in Bastoni, and the player himself is reportedly keen on the prospect of joining the Blaugrana.

Defensive Concerns: Christensen and Araujo’s Season Challenges

Reports suggest Bastoni currently earns close to seven million Euros annually at Inter. However, Barcelona is prepared to offer a more lucrative package to secure his services. Despite their financial constraints, the Catalan club is reportedly making every effort to put together a comprehensive deal that satisfies both the player and Inter.

Barcelona’s need for a strong central defender is evident: while Pau Cubarsi is a regular in the backline, Andreas Christensen has been sidelined by injury for an extended period, and captain Ronald Araujo has recently faced fitness issues. While Eric Garcia offers another option for coach Hansi Flick, Bastoni would undoubtedly represent a significant upgrade.
