Fabregas: Como’s Most Satisfying Win Amidst Exhaustion; Butez Ready for France

Cesc Fabregas declared that Como’s 2-1 away victory against Cagliari was «the most satisfying win this season» due to the team’s physical exhaustion following their Coppa Italia fixtures. He also added, «Jean Butez is ready for international duty.»

Just two seasons ago, Como was competing in Serie B. Now, they find themselves playing matches every three days in Serie A, vying for a top-four position, and have reached the Coppa Italia semi-finals.

After a 0-0 draw with Inter on Tuesday evening, they secured all three points today, winning 2-1 in Sardinia with goals from Martin Baturina and Lucas Da Cunha.

Fabregas Proud of Como’s Progression

«I liked how the lads reacted today; this performance proves what the team is made of. They possess a great mentality that is growing game by game,» Fabregas told DAZN Italia.

«Today we were all exhausted; there were so many consecutive matches, we were very tired. That is why this is the most satisfying victory of the season. It is truly a significant step forward for the team.»

The task was far from simple, as Sebastiano Esposito’s diving header had temporarily leveled the score for Cagliari, and Como had to rely on a crucial fingertip save from Butez against Michel Adopo’s attempt.

«Como has invested in young players, and some of them, even if they didn’t cost very much, are world-class,» Fabregas asserted.

«Since his arrival, Butez has worked like an animal. He always wants to learn more, and he knows everything depends on how much you desire it. He is a leader not only because of his qualities but also in the locker room. I believe he is ready to step up for international duty with France.»

This result temporarily places Como in joint fourth place alongside Roma, who face a challenging trip to Genoa tomorrow evening and have the distraction of the Europa League.

Are these underdogs genuinely contenders for a Champions League spot?

«We are not there yet. We are on the right track, but there are still many games to go. Today I saw clear progress in the team; it was one of the most difficult matches of the season, and credit for that also goes to Fabio Pisacane for instilling his identity into the Cagliari squad,» Fabregas concluded.
