VfB Stuttgart striker Deniz Undav is in superb form and harbors ambitious goals, including for the German national team.
Deniz Undav once again showcased his humor, playfully suggesting he intends to catch Harry Kane and eyeing the national team captaincy. While dismissing these claims as «just a joke,» the currently most in-form German striker solidified his claim for a starting spot in upcoming international matches and for the impending World Cup with another stellar performance in VfB Stuttgart’s dominant 5-2 victory over FC Augsburg.
«Ideally, I want to play – and when I play, I try to shine, score, and recommend myself to the national coach,» Undav stated regarding his potential return to the DFB team.
On Sunday evening, he scored his 17th and 18th goals of the season and selflessly set up the 5-2 goal for his strike partner Ermedin Demirovic. «We’ll see what the national coach wants. And even if it’s not enough [for a starting spot], I’ll just give my all from the bench and try to help the team,» he added.
Undav’s Goals Propel Stuttgart Towards Champions League

The 29-year-old is instrumental in propelling VfB Stuttgart towards the Champions League. Undav has netted seven goals in his last six league appearances, scoring at least once in each match.
When asked if Bayern’s prolific scorer Kane, with his 31 seasonal goals, should be worried, Undav conceded: «No, that’s impossible.» He also added that DFB captain Joshua Kimmich shouldn’t fear for his armband. «You can expect anything from Deniz, but I figured he wasn’t entirely serious,» quipped his head coach Sebastian Hoeneß.
