De Siervo: Napoli and Bologna Victories Prove Italian Football is Competitive

During the Serie A Festival, Luigi De Siervo, CEO of Lega Serie A, spoke from the stage of the Teatro Regio. His remarks, reported by TMW, included reflections on the league`s journey. “We owe the restart of Italian football after Covid to the Emilia-Romagna region,” he stated. “They made the effort to push and unite the regions to get the league back underway. Thanks to that relationship, we decided to open ourselves to new influences and ideas.”

De Siervo continued, expressing pride in the league: “We are pleased to lead a football league that has become a form of storytelling, a great popular narrative that brings together people of all ages and social strata. It is the only collective event that unites people. What we experienced in Naples, with the title race going down to the wire, created an emotional domino effect whose vibrations we still feel. The goal of this Festival is to share, to diffuse the intensity and tensions of a championship fought until the very end.”

Addressing the league`s competitive balance, he added: “We are proud to have teams that are capable of winning the Scudetto. The recent successes of Napoli and Bologna demonstrate that football in our country is competitive. Bologna shows us that even clubs from cities like Parma, Florence, or Turin can climb the ranks and return to the top. Football is not solely a business driven by economics, although its value is undeniable. To the many disappointed Inter fans, I would say we must consider that Inter lost two finals against clubs as wealthy as some nations. Honour to Inter for representing us in the ultimate final. With innovative ideas, this country can continue to teach the world about football. We also congratulate Mister Ancelotti, who has begun his tenure with the world`s most successful national team. It truly shows that football can be played, emotions conveyed, and empathy created, even with limited resources.”
