David Giubilato on Napoli, Conte, and De Laurentiis

Former footballer David Giubilato recently shared his insights on Napoli`s current situation and key figures during an interview.

Regarding the upcoming match against Torino, Giubilato acknowledges that Napoli is considered the favorite, but cautions against underestimating their opponent. He describes Torino as a well-organized team under coach Vanoli, capable of posing significant threats. Napoli faces challenges, particularly due to injuries, including doubts over key player Buongiorno and the confirmed absence of his replacement, Juan Jesus. Giubilato praised Juan Jesus for stepping up effectively when called upon, while noting Buongiorno`s undeniable talent despite his frequent absences this season.

Asked about the possibility of reverting to a three-man defense, Giubilato stated it could be an option but depends heavily on training preparations, which are complicated by the defensive injury crisis. He emphasized that the primary issue is not the tactical formation itself but the lack of available players in defense.

When prompted to choose a favorite for the Scudetto between Napoli and Inter, Giubilato admitted his emotional connection leans towards Napoli. However, he acknowledged Inter`s strength and position in the league. While he believes both teams control their destiny, he noted that a potential playoff, if required, being held at San Siro would give Inter an advantage.

Addressing the recent controversial statements made by coach Antonio Conte, Giubilato confirmed that the relationship between Conte and President De Laurentiis is fundamentally good. However, he believes Conte`s public remarks indicate some underlying issues. He feels Conte genuinely wants to continue at Napoli but requires specific assurances regarding the team`s future direction and strengthening. According to Giubilato, Conte`s history shows he needs certainty, and his recent comments were a clear message to the president: build a more competitive squad, or he will consider leaving.
