Could a Spectacular Return Be Brewing at Eintracht Frankfurt? Contact Reportedly Made

Eintracht Frankfurt is reportedly in pursuit of a successor to coach Albert Riera, with a concrete move being made for the potential return of Adi Hütter.

According to Kicker, initial contact has been established with Hütter’s management. However, his agent, Alen Augustincic, declined to confirm this to the sports magazine. The 56-year-old Austrian most recently coached AS Monaco for approximately two years, but was dismissed in October.

Hütter had a successful tenure at Eintracht from 2018 to 2021 before making a less-than-ideal move to Borussia Mönchengladbach. Despite this, he maintains a connection to his former club. It’s reported that he visited Frankfurt just a few weeks ago.

In 2023, after leaving Borussia, Hütter told Kicker, «‘Gladbach is also a great club, but emotionally, I still feel an extreme attachment to Frankfurt. When I watch Eintracht’s games, something stirs within me. It was an incredibly great time.'»

It remains unclear, however, whether Hütter is even considering a return to Eintracht as a coach. He has recently been rumored to be eyeing opportunities in the Premier League. Furthermore, L’Equipe has linked him with Olympique Marseille.

Who Else is Being Considered as Albert Riera’s Successor at Eintracht?

While the departure of the controversial Albert Riera after only three and a half months has not yet been officially announced, it is widely reported to be a done deal. Even a potential qualification for the Conference League on the final Bundesliga matchday against VfB Stuttgart is unlikely to change this. The sporting results have been too poor, and the public relations too erratic.

In addition to Hütter, several other coaching candidates have been linked with Eintracht in recent days. These include: Matthias Jaissle (Al-Ahli), Kjetil Knutsen (Bodö Glimt), Jacob Neestrup (unattached), Domenico Tedesco (unattached), Roger Schmidt (Global Sports Director of the Japanese League), Mike Tullberg (FC Midtjylland), Tobias Strobl (SC Verl), Tonda Eckert (FC Southampton), and Danny Röhl (Glasgow Rangers).
