Conte’s Usual Controversies and Aftermath

`Damascelli

Tony Damascelli, writing for Il Giornale, comments on Antonio Conte`s recent press conference. He describes Conte`s passionate Friday remarks as more of a theatrical performance, surprising only to those unfamiliar with the coach`s personality and fixations.

Conte stated, “After eight months at Napoli, I realized that many things cannot be done,” on the eve of the match against Monza. This statement comes despite Napoli`s strong league position, currently behind Inter and still aiming for the championship title.

In typical Conte fashion, he did not specify what “things” are impossible to do in Naples, thereby offending both the city and the club. Damascelli points out this behavior is consistent with Conte`s tenures at other clubs like Torino, Milan, and London, where he achieved results but also left behind controversies, bitter memories, and no sense of regret.

Damascelli quotes Indro Montanelli`s response to a journalist complaining about newspaper decisions: “The only form of protest is resignation.” He then suggests Aurelio De Laurentiis should consider this advice. If a multi-millionaire employee is dissatisfied, Damascelli implies, he should step aside with dignity, befitting both a man and a professional.
