FC Bayern Munich faces concerns over key player Konrad Laimer. The 28-year-old Austrian midfielder missed his national team’s match against Ghana due to knee issues. While the exact duration of his absence remains uncertain, he was forced to watch Austria’s 5-1 victory from the sidelines.
His national coach, Ralf Rangnick, explained that Laimer felt an irritation in his knee after a normal training session, leading to the decision to take no risks. This raises questions about his availability for Bayern Munich’s crucial upcoming fixtures in the decisive weeks of the season.
Contract Talks with Laimer Stalled
Laimer remains with the national team, which is set to play another friendly against South Korea, though his participation is doubtful. Ralf Rangnick underscored Laimer’s importance, stating there’s no need to test him given Bayern’s critical upcoming matches. «We know what’s coming up for him. We don’t need to test Konny. We know what we have in him,» Rangnick stated.
FC Bayern also highly values the versatile player, who is considered a key performer and regular starter in coach Vincent Kompany’s squad, despite minor injury concerns. However, negotiations for a contract extension beyond summer 2027 are proving more challenging than anticipated, primarily due to financial demands and the player’s perceived value.
Bayern’s Crucial Clashes Against Real Madrid and Leverkusen
Following the international break, FC Bayern will first face SC Freiburg in the Bundesliga. This will be followed by the hugely important Champions League quarter-final clashes against Real Madrid on April 7th and 15th. Just one week later, Bayern will travel to Bayer Leverkusen for the DFB-Pokal semi-final. Laimer’s injury thus comes at a critical juncture for the club, potentially impacting their ambitions in multiple competitions.
