Speaking after the Champions League encounter between Barcelona and Inter, Simone Inzaghi expressed immense satisfaction with his team`s performance, stating, “It`s a huge satisfaction, we played a great game.” However, he admitted to some lingering regret regarding the match`s turning points. “Of course, there`s a bit of regret about the two-goal lead we had,” Inzaghi commented, also referencing a disallowed goal. “A goal being disallowed that I still don`t understand why… but we played an excellent match against what I think is the strongest team in the world.”
Interviewed by Amazon Prime, the Inter coach added, “Incidents make a difference, but [the disallowed goal] wouldn`t have changed anything. We still played a good match.” He singled out a specific opponent player: “On the other side, there was a player I haven`t seen the likes of in the last 8-9 years. Yamal caused us a lot of problems, then clearly he faded a bit later on.” Inzaghi acknowledged Barcelona`s quality: “They have tremendous quality, we put in a very well-organized performance.”
Addressing the situation with Lautaro Martinez, Inzaghi explained, “He was coming off eight consecutive games, unfortunately, I didn`t have Thuram, and he was playing a lot.” Lautaro suffered a physical issue, forcing him off. “He felt a strain, which happens when you play so many games, and he was forced to give up.” Inzaghi praised the substitute, adding, “But I compliment Taremi on how he came on.” Looking ahead to the next fixture, he concluded, “Tuesday will be a final, and we know that whoever wins will go and play another one.”
