UEFA President Aleksander Ceferin spoke following the 49th congress of the European football confederation. Here are his remarks:
“Gabriele Gravina is a distinguished football executive and a great individual. I have great confidence in him. He is someone who loves football and has dedicated his life to the sport. I hold Gabriele in high regard.”
Regarding hosting competitions in Germany, Ceferin noted: “It is always possible to host a competition in Germany; they are well-organized and have excellent infrastructure. However, it is a decision for the executive committee. We will evaluate the offers when the time is right.”
Addressing the Club World Cup, Ceferin stated, “The Club World Cup will take place, that`s for sure. European clubs want it. I don`t see it as competition for our tournaments, though I believe there will be more matches for the players. My colleague Infantino should answer about the expansion of the next World Cup, not me. I don`t believe it`s a good idea, neither for the World Cup itself nor for our qualifiers. We did not support this proposal at the FIFA Council; I don`t know where it came from, and it`s strange we were unaware of it.”
On the topic of Russia, Ceferin commented, “I have spoken about Russia many times, and you will continue to have your doubts. When the war stops, they will be readmitted. If you are talking about football, you can look at the latest rankings of Russia and Israel. If you are talking about politics, don`t ask me.”
