Andrea Abodi, Italy`s Minister for Sport and Youth, described the decision to postpone the Serie B playouts as “wise and balanced.” The postponement was made by President Bedin. Abodi acknowledged that it would have been preferable to avoid this situation or to have acted sooner. He intends to discuss the matter with the League but sees the choice as a prudent measure.
The delay stems from investigations by Covisoc and the Tax Agency into alleged payment irregularities by Brescia, which could potentially result in a penalty. According to the minister, it would have been paradoxical and potentially disruptive to play the playouts only to later have to alter their outcome or the structure of the league. Speaking on the sidelines of the International Day of Fair Play event at the Senate, Abodi added that he would also consult with the federation.
He stressed the importance of regulatory checks taking the football calendar into consideration, while recognizing the distinct nature of sports justice. Sports justice, he noted, must balance the principles of fairness with the interests of entire categories such as Serie B and Lega Pro.
