The Administrative Court of Tuscany has accepted Cagliari`s appeal against the travel ban for their fans to Empoli for Sunday`s game. The court deemed the ban excessive and has authorized ticket sales for Sardinian residents in the away sector only, specifically for fans who are part of Cagliari`s fan loyalty program.
The court suggested implementing stricter stewarding and reinforced security measures, including pre-filtering and filtering at the stadium, as sufficient measures instead of a complete ban.
Cagliari filed the appeal after the Florence Prefecture upheld the ban on all Sardinian fans. The Prefecture cited past incidents involving Cagliari fans in Empoli in February 2022 and March 2024 as justification, mentioning unspecified “oppositional behaviors.” However, the court found these reasons too generic and insufficient to prove significant rivalry between the two fanbases.
The court will further examine the appeal on April 29th.
