BVB News — ‘The new club gets a really good player’: TV expert praises Julian Brandt

Former German international Dietmar Hamann has praised Borussia Dortmund’s Julian Brandt following his last home game for BVB against Eintracht Frankfurt. The attacking midfielder’s contract was not extended after seven years with the club.

«The new club gets a really good player. I think it will help him,» Hamann told Sky. From his perspective, Brandt’s departure came a bit too late: «I would have wished for this step a year or two ago. He will have two or three really good years elsewhere,» Hamann was convinced.

In Dortmund, the 30-year-old was often criticized for his inconsistent performances. «In the past, it was like this: if things weren’t going well, Brandt was to blame. That was often symbolic. There was often some truth to it, but perhaps also often a bit exaggerated. Perhaps he was treated unfairly. That’s why I think it will do him good to see something different,» Hamann opined.

It is still unclear where Brandt will move. Fundamentally, however, he is toying with a move abroad. «There are things I prefer. And there are things I prefer less at the moment. There are one or two ideas. But everything in its own time,» Brandt recently stated.

For Dortmund, Julian Brandt scored 57 goals and provided 70 assists in 306 competitive matches.
