Marco Bucciantini, journalist and commentator, spoke to Sky Sport about Juventus` choice to dismiss Thiago Motta after only eight months. The Bianconeri club has chosen Igor Tudor as his replacement. Here are his statements reported by TMW colleagues:
“The last two matches had something definitive in them, in the attitude. It was the end. It`s the ending that no one expected and that few wanted, certainly not the coach. But they told of the end, with the absence of even historical pride for what was happening on the field. Waiting for Genoa would have made sense if it had been a real wait, but there was talk of financial arrangements. Probably in these days, they tried to sniff the air in the locker room and perhaps it was verified how ineffective Motta`s message was. How much, beyond the sincere will, the concepts reached the team. It is a decision that comes at the end of a journey.”
What didn`t work?
“It`s difficult. Surely a new idea arrived immediately, this was the choice: to change the football approach. Occasionally Juventus tries to combine this discussion with results: it doesn`t always succeed in getting out of that safe haven, that home that is results. The problem is that continuous improvements have not been seen. The most difficult thing to explain for Motta is the poor performance of the transfer campaign: even leaving aside Douglas Luiz, Koopmeiners and Nico Gonzalez arrived from Serie A with defined roles and got lost. We will remember them with roles opposite to where they were used to playing. At the end of March, we still do not know an ideal Juventus: we only know the economic value of the purchases, and not the real one.”
Was Tudor chosen also for a matter of DNA?
“I also believe that, at the end of the adventure with Marseille, there had been an approach with Juve and this hastened the farewell to a place where he was comfortable. Tudor and Juventus have met several times: he is a man who does well and does it quickly. Little or much that it has been, where he has been he has done well. Juventus asks him to give meaning to this season, which has lost it. As for the joke about Vlahovic, there is a bit of Slavic trade unionism, even if they come from two different nations.”
