Brazil Seeks New Coach: Mourinho on the Shortlist

José Mourinho is among the top candidates being considered for the position of head coach of the Brazilian national team. According to local reports, while Carlo Ancelotti remains the preferred choice of CBF President Ednaldo Rodrigues, Ancelotti`s commitment to Real Madrid for another year makes him less immediately available.

This situation elevates Portuguese coach Jorge Jesus, currently managing Al Hilal in Saudi Arabia, as a leading contender. Jesus`s obligations with the Club World Cup mean he likely wouldn`t be free until mid-July unless he were to resign early. This timing could be problematic as Brazil has World Cup qualifying matches in June.

The other Portuguese names on the list include Abel Ferreira, who has achieved significant success in South America with Palmeiras, and José Mourinho. Mourinho`s potential availability at the end of the season, as he might depart from Fenerbahce due to recent controversies in Turkey, makes him an intriguing option for Brazil. He would reportedly be welcomed with open arms in the South American nation.

It`s worth noting that Mourinho has previously expressed interest in managing a national team. Taking the Brazil job could be seen as a perfect opportunity for him to solidify his `Special One` status by potentially becoming the first-ever foreign coach to lead the Seleção.

The fact that no Brazilian coaches are currently on the CBF`s shortlist has sparked debate. However, this trend mirrors the increasing presence of foreign coaches in the Brazilian domestic league, despite Brazil`s rich history as a five-time World Cup champion.
