Bonolis: «Bastoni? An Ordinary Incident, but Everything is Exaggerated Now»

Paolo Bonolis, the well-known television presenter and avid Inter fan, gave an interview to Sky Sport, sharing his thoughts on the National team and more. «We are all Gattuso,» he humorously remarked about the National team, «perhaps aesthetically we’re even better.» He added that he would enthusiastically support the National team’s match.

Will Italy Qualify for the World Cup?

On Italy’s qualification for the World Cup, Bonolis stressed the absolute necessity for national glory, especially after missing two previous editions. He is confident that Italy can and should make it, while acknowledging football’s inherent unpredictability. He highlighted Italy’s historical, professional, and technical superiority compared to other nations, stating that if they fail to overcome current obstacles, qualification would not be deserved. There’s a strong desire to be there, especially among the many young players who have never participated in a World Cup. The ongoing generational change is viewed positively, offering new talents the opportunity to win with the Azzurri jersey. He concluded that a united group makes Italy superior.

Bastoni’s Recovery and the «Exaggerated Era»

Regarding Alessandro Bastoni, Bonolis expressed hope for his physical recovery but also addressed the issue from a human perspective. He criticized the current era where «everything is exaggerated»: every event is perceived as incredible or non-existent, extraordinary or a failure, losing sight of the ordinary dimension. The incident involving Bastoni in the Inter-Juventus match (a simulation) was described by Bonolis as «quite an ordinary event» within the context of football. According to Bonolis, the current media climate, particularly polarized in football, allows no room for error, triggering immediate «caudine forks» (public backlash) on social media, newspapers, radio, and TV. He concluded that Bastoni, being a mature man, is aware that this is an objective problem of the era, and not a personal failing.
