Journalist Fabrizio Biasin, speaking on Radio Sportiva, commented on the postponement of the Atalanta-Lecce match. The game was moved from Friday evening to Sunday at 8:45 PM following the tragic death of the Lecce team physiotherapist. Regarding the decision, he stated:
“This is a grotesque decision. When something like what happened at Lecce occurs, you either choose to respect the fact that Lecce currently neither wants nor is able to take the field, and therefore you genuinely postpone the match. Postponing the match doesn`t mean just shifting it by two days. Moving it by two days means pretending to have understood what happened, whereas this approach fails to respect such a significant loss. Because if the Lecce players weren`t ready to play today [Friday], they certainly won`t be ready on Sunday either.”
Biasin continued, “Instead, this half-measure solution is adopted, attempting to show respect for the team while simultaneously compelling them to play just 48 hours later. It`s all quite ridiculous and stems from an illogical calendar, something we`ve clearly seen in recent days. The sooner we reduce Serie A to 18 teams, the better it will be for everyone involved. I fully understand the protest from the Lecce squad and their fans.”
