Beccantini: “Juventus Fell Back into Tactical Wandering, Late Subs. Tudor’s First Loss, He Should Reflect.”

In his regular post on beckisback.it, Roberto Beccantini dissects Juventus`s defeat against Parma. He notes that Parma, coached by Chivu, had previously beaten Bologna 2-0 and come back from two goals down against Inter, so their 1-0 victory over Juventus wasn`t entirely unexpected. This was despite Parma losing Vogliacco and Bernabé early on, showing resilience rather than yielding. Beccantini suggests that Igor Tudor, facing his first defeat in what he calls his “ferry” role, should seriously consider the implications. He describes the team as lacking dynamism (“a pond”) without Kenan Yildiz`s influence. Furthermore, he highlights the recurring problem of conceding goals from headers (now ten), detailing how Valeri`s cross and Pellegrino`s powerful header sealed Juventus`s fate just before halftime, with legendary figures Hernan Crespo and Lilian Thuram observing from the stands.

The race for a Champions League spot is turning into a lottery. Parma, with Bonny and Leoni playing key roles, executed their game plan effectively, characterized by waiting for opportunities and pressing hard. Juventus, unlike their performances against Roma and Lecce, were sluggish from the start. Beccantini speculates this might have been due to fearing Parma`s counter-attacks. The consequence was a game of ineffective passing (“I pass to you, you pass to me”), with minimal attacking threat—zero sparks, zero shots, and no saves required from the Parma keeper, Suzuki.

The attacking partnership of Randal Kolo Muani and Dušan Vlahović was ineffective. Beccantini notes Kolo Muani dropping deep while Vlahović struggled to win physical duels. Weston McKennie and Andrea Cambiaso were either wide or not contributing effectively, leading to a general lack of incisiveness in attack. He adds that Parma`s defense was well-organized, blocking passing lanes and easily repelling Juventus`s “objectively boring and vague” attacks.

Tudor`s substitutions came too late. From a purely technical standpoint, the match quality was low, but Beccantini emphasizes that aesthetics are irrelevant at this stage of the season; results are what count. He praises Chivu for improving Parma, noting Pellegrini as the essential attacking force they needed. Conversely, Juventus, he concludes, regressed into the kind of tactical aimlessness that had previously hampered the team`s fluidity or potential.
