Barcelona’s Transfer Hope for Spanish National Player Dashed by Real Madrid

FC Barcelona may have to abandon its pursuit of Victor Munoz, with Real Madrid reportedly blocking the transfer. The rival club appears to be standing in the way of the 22-year-old joining the Catalan giants.

According to Spanish newspaper AS, Real Madrid is preventing the young player from moving to Barcelona. This is possible because Real Madrid possesses a buy-back option for their former academy player, valued at eight million euros. Munoz had transferred to CA Osasuna in the summer for five million euros.

Ironically, Munoz was born in Barcelona and began his football journey at the legendary La Masia academy before leaving in 2017. After a stint at CF Damm, he joined Real Madrid’s U19 team four years later.

Real Madrid can exercise this buy-back clause within the next three years. The option’s value is set to increase by one million euros each season, meaning they would need to pay a relatively small amount to bring him back.

Not Just Barcelona: Several Clubs Interested in Munoz

If another club were to make an offer, a mandatory release clause in Spain would require a payment of 40 million euros. Furthermore, Real Madrid has secured a 50% sell-on clause and a pre-emption right, allowing them to intervene at any time. In simple terms, if the release clause is met by another club, Real Madrid could step in.

Munoz is certainly attracting attention across Europe. In addition to Barcelona, several Premier League and Serie A clubs are reportedly tracking the dynamic winger. This season, the young Spaniard has contributed six goals and five assists in 33 matches for Osasuna, quickly securing a regular starting position upon his arrival.

Moreover, Munoz made his debut for the Spanish national team in March, immediately making an impact with a goal in a 3-0 victory over Serbia. This performance suggests he has a strong chance of being included in the World Cup squad this summer.
