Atalanta Making Strong Push Ahead of Juventus in Champions League Standing, Reports Gazzetta

`Atalanta

According to the Italian sports newspaper Gazzetta, the competition for Champions League qualification in Serie A is becoming increasingly intense. Atalanta is positioning itself strongly and could potentially find itself ranked only behind Inter Milan in terms of appearances in Europe`s premier club competition over recent seasons.

This potential shift in standing is largely dependent on Juventus`s performance. Currently occupying fourth place, Juventus holds the edge in terms of recent history and could secure their sixth participation in the Champions League over the reference period. However, if the Turin club fails to achieve its objective in the upcoming crucial fixtures, Atalanta would catch up, reaching five appearances.

Over the past seven seasons, Atalanta has demonstrated remarkable consistency, surpassing several significant Italian clubs from major cities, including Milan, Napoli, and Lazio. They have also maintained a lead over Bologna, a team that has only recently entered the race for European spots last season and is now striving for a second consecutive qualification.

With a current points total of 65, Atalanta holds their destiny firmly in their own hands. They are scheduled to face a direct competitor, Roma (a team they defeated earlier in the season), at home. This crucial match is followed by three other games that are considered challenging but certainly winnable.

Importantly, Atalanta possesses a four-point lead that they must protect in the final games. This advantage is effectively four points over Juventus (when accounting for head-to-head records) and five points over Bologna, giving them a significant buffer as the season approaches its conclusion.
