Asllani’s Transfer Tango: Inter Wants Cash, Player Wants Serie A Stay

Inter Milan midfielder Kristjan Asllani finds himself at the centre of a peculiar transfer saga this summer. While the club is reportedly open to his sale, aiming to generate funds, the player himself seems to be dictating terms, specifically regarding his preferred destination.

The Albian international`s priority, it appears, is to remain in Italy. This firm stance has led him to reject proposals from abroad. Reports indicate that Spanish club Real Betis was particularly keen, engaging with Asllani`s agent in an attempt to facilitate a move to La Liga. However, the player unequivocally said `no`. This resistance to foreign options is creating a bit of a bottleneck for Inter`s transfer strategy.

Inter`s management values Asllani at approximately €15 million and is primarily seeking a permanent transfer. This is part of a broader effort to raise around €40 million from player sales, including others like Buchanan, Esposito, and Aleksandar Stankovic, to fund incoming transfers or balance the books. Loaning Asllani out is seemingly not the preferred solution, as the club needs the capital now.

Domestically, two Serie A clubs are reportedly monitoring the situation: Bologna and Fiorentina. A move to Fiorentina, in particular, holds a certain narrative appeal. Asllani, though Albanian-born, grew up in Tuscany, near Florence, and a return to the region would represent a sentimental “full circle.” However, offers matching Inter`s valuation and terms from these Italian clubs have yet to materialise.

Asllani`s three seasons at Inter since joining in 2022 have seen him feature 99 times, but he has often struggled to consistently impress or cement a starting spot, particularly in high-stakes matches. His performance, including appearances in youth tournaments like the World Cup (likely referring to the U20 World Cup under coach Chivu, where he reportedly did not shine), has been described by some as underwhelming. Despite glimpses of potential, his time at San Siro seems to be concluding.

The resolution of this transfer `case` now largely rests on Kristjan Asllani himself. Inter needs to sell, he only wants to stay in Italy, and potential Italian suitors haven`t met the club`s price tag for a permanent deal. Until this alignment occurs, the midfielder remains in a curious state of limbo, holding the keys, perhaps unintentionally, to a piece of Inter`s summer transfer puzzle.
