Agnese Bonfantini on Inspiring Young Players

Juventus forward Agnese Bonfantini, currently on loan at Fiorentina, spoke to Vivo Azzurro TV about becoming a point of reference for young girls aspiring to play football. Below are her comments, as reported by TMW:

“To my younger self, I would say, `Thank goodness you calmed down.` I was born into a family of volleyball players, but I always preferred playing football with my classmates. At six years old, my mother enrolled me in a different team because she thought I`d get tired of it without my friends. Instead, I made new friends and never stopped. Around the age of ten, I briefly tried volleyball. It was funny because there I would handle the ball with my feet, while in football I`d use my hands – I even got a red card for doing that once! From then on, I told my parents I wanted to dedicate myself to the sport I loved most, and they immediately supported me. I must thank them for their countless sacrifices; I`m happy to have repaid their efforts. It`s something inexplicable, a great honor. When I was little, I was inspired by a male player, but now younger girls can find inspiration in us.”
