AC Milan’s Fullback Pursuit: High Demands for Doué Follow Brown Disappointment

AC Milan is navigating a challenging summer transfer market, with the search for a new fullback proving particularly complex. Just over a month out from the start of competitive fixtures, the club finds itself facing obstacles after a key target slipped away unexpectedly and another`s price tag appears significantly steep.

The recent disappointment involving English defender Archie Brown perfectly encapsulates this difficulty. Brown, who seemed on the verge of a move to Milan, made a surprising late decision to join Fenerbahçe instead. This unforeseen turn of events, reportedly after initially declining the Turkish club, left Milan revisiting their strategy and underscored the often-unpredictable nature of modern transfer negotiations. A frustrating turn, to say the least.

Attention has since reportedly shifted to Guéla Doué of Strasbourg. However, this potential signing is also presenting significant hurdles. Reports indicate that Milan`s initial offer of €15 million for the defender has been met with a demand from Strasbourg for double that amount – a substantial €30 million. This considerable gap in valuation makes reaching a swift agreement difficult and currently puts the deal in serious doubt. It appears Strasbourg is quite content to “shoot high,” perhaps recognizing the player`s potential or simply testing Milan`s resolve, making the Rossoneri`s pursuit an uphill battle.

As a result of these complications, Milan`s transfer team is reportedly exploring alternative targets, with Pubill from Almeria mentioned as another player on their radar. The need for reinforcement at the fullback position is evident, especially as the team has commenced pre-season training, and the coaching staff requires new players integrated into the squad.

While the transfer window remains open, the early setbacks encountered with Brown and the demanding negotiations for Doué clearly illustrate the complexities Milan faces in strengthening their squad in key areas. Following a challenging 2024-25 season, the club is under pressure to make effective signings, and successfully overcoming these market difficulties is crucial for their ambitions to return to a position of strength.
