Dries Mertens, the Belgian football star and Napoli`s all-time leading scorer, is scheduled to receive honorary citizenship of Naples on June 6th.
The prestigious ceremony will take place at the historic Maschio Angioino castle. Naples Mayor Gaetano Manfredi will present the honor, following a request approved by the City Council.
Mertens spent nine seasons with Napoli, during which he made 397 appearances and scored a record 148 goals for the club. His contributions solidified his status as a legend among the fans.
Although he moved to Galatasaray in the summer of 2022, Mertens has kept his home in Naples at Palazzo Donn`Anna and frequently returns to the city, demonstrating his deep bond with the Neapolitan community.
